Cognitive Experiments with EEG: EEG Data Acquisition and Implementation of Cognitive Experimental Paradigms (Session I)

 

This workshop will address both theoretical and practical approaches to EEG-based data acquisition and the implementation of cognitive experimental paradigms. The fundamental components of EEG data collection—including electrode placement, impedance control, determination of recording parameters, and monitoring of signal quality—will be presented through practical examples. In addition, commonly used cognitive paradigms such as visual and auditory Go/No-Go and N-back tasks will be introduced to illustrate how these paradigms are structured within experimental design and conducted simultaneously with EEG recordings. The aim of this session is to provide participants with a theoretical, methodological, and practical foundation for data collection and task design in EEG-based experimental research.

 

Introduction to EEG-Based Block Design and Event-Related Potential Analyses (Session II)

 

In this session, block design approaches used in EEG-based experimental studies and the fundamental methods of event-related potential analysis will be examined through practical demonstrations. Using a representative EEG dataset, the preprocessing steps required to prepare raw data for analysis will be presented, including epoching, filtering, basic artifact removal, and averaging procedures. Based on the resulting ERP components, participants will explore how experimental findings can be interpreted at both statistical and conceptual levels and how these findings relate to underlying cognitive processes. The objective of this session is to enable participants to internalize the conceptual framework of EEG data analysis and to acquire the skills necessary to independently conduct fundamental ERP-based analyses.
